If you are reading this, you've already installed it!
•Description:
Lab-Rat is a computer game that combines some video arcade fun with interactive learning. Users play the game while simultaneously answering distinct sets of multiple choice questions.
The best feature of this software is that ANYONE can create an entirely new set of questions! This means that you can tailor the game to meet your educational needs.
For example:
Let's say you are a high school teacher and your students are covering "The Anatomy of the Frog" this semester in their biology class. You can now use the LAB-RAT QUESTIONS EDITOR and create a set of up to 50 questions for the students to review! And the possibilities are endless... You can create a set of questions to cover any conceivable topic.
If you're a student, you and your friends can create your own sets of questions to test each other on different subjects while you study and review!
•Using Lab-Rat:
(1). Double click on the "Lab-Rat v2.0.1" icon.
(2). Click on the "Alright" button of the start-up message.
(3). Select a file of questions to use during the game (such as "Lab-Rat.Questions").
(4). Click the “Open” button. A progress bar will appear while the game loads.
(5). A spinning DNA molecule will alert you that the game is ready to be played. Use your computer mouse to click past the start-up screens until you reach the main menu screen.
(6.) Click on the "Play..." menu option and play the game!
(7.) The [ESC] key may be used to end the game and to quit the program.
•Special Features:
* Pressing the "B" key during game play will cause the background stars to disappear and the game will run faster. This is a good feature for older machines which tend to be slower.
* Pressing any number between "7" and "0" during game play will adjust the sound volume accordingly.
* Pressing the "S" key during game play will turn the sound effects on and off.
* Pressing the "M" key during game play will turn the music on and off.
* Pressing the [TAB] key during game play will pause the game.
* Pressing the "-" key during game play will slow down the game as much as possible.
* Pressing the "+" key during game play will speed up the game as much as possible.
* Pressing the [ESC] key during game play will end the game then in progress.
* If you want to clear the high scores listing, then place the "Lab-Rat.Scores" file in the trash can and empty the trash can.
•Advanced Users:
* If you want to change the sounds used by the Lab-Rat program, just use a resource editor to substitute your SND sounds for the current SND sounds. Please note that the background music is located in "Lab-Rat.Snds". The Lab-Rat program looks for the resource ID numbers of the SND sounds, not the resource names. Therefore, you merely need to make sure that your substituted SND sounds have the same resource ID numbers as the current SND sounds. If the Lab-Rat program refuses to play your SND sounds, then you probably need to allocate more memory for the program. This can be done directly from the desktop. Just highlight the "Lab-Rat v2.0.1" icon and select "Get Info" under the desktop's "File" menu. A window will pop up giving certain information about the Lab-Rat program. This window will have a box in the bottom right corner labeled as "Current size:". Click inside this box and increase the memory size. If you are unable to do this, then you probably have to first click on the "Locked" box in the bottom left corner. That should unlock the program and allow you to proceed.
•Known incompatibilities of Lab-Rat with other software:
(1.) Do not use a screen saver while running Lab-Rat. If you do, then certain screen areas may not redraw properly.
(2.) Do not run any other applications in the background while running Lab-Rat. This could hinder Lab-Rat's performance.
